Lincoln Addresses the Nation
November, 19, 1863
GETTYSBURG, Pennsylvania—
"Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal." (See page 2 for complete speech)
These are the words of Abraham Lincoln written by hand, with one single draft and minimal corrections. 272 words of divine inspiration according to Mr. Lincoln; he was "inspired by god"
A man of conviction and bravery, President Abraham Lincoln addressed the nation today at the cemetery built in honor of those 7,500 fallen at the battle of Gettysburg. His speech spoke of the honor bestowed on the brave soldiers who died protecting the rights of freedom and the equality of all men.
The words of the nations leader: "Its humbling to consider the sacrifices that have been made… its humbling to be the leader of this nation at this time… I believe we will recover from this, but it will take a long time." "United we stand, divided we fall"
